Not Fair is not Always Bad

I think we have to be careful to fight for fairness. Because sometimes making everything fair for one person, makes life worse off for may more people.

If the teacher of a small school always caters to the slowest kid in a classroom, the whole class suffers.

If the government requires a mom and pop ice cream business to make a wheelchair ramp which costs $10,000, and business is already barely getting by, fair for a very small few may mean none for anybody.📷

I think whenever possible we should strive for fairness for all, but we need to make sure we don’t prize it as the ultimate virtue under which all others must fall servant. All the virtues must be held in balance, lest by championing one above the rest, we hurt more than before.
