My friend Chad thinks that among men, nobody knows absolute truth. But, he thinks there is absolute truth out there. I think both of his statements are absolutely correct. God’s just so much bigger than us.

Like mice looking up at an elephant, one sees the kind face and a curious trunk. Another sees big heavy feet. And still others are scattering for their lives because they see a lifting tail. And even though they are looking up at the same creature, about the only thing they see in common is that the elephant is very much bigger than them.
On my walk last night I prayed, “God, I want to know who you really are.” I want to know who is correct, what he is like, and I want to know the absolute truth. And the answer I think I heard was, “Ross, I’m way too big for you to fully understand. But for now I will show you enough to get you through the day.”
That makes me sad. I want to understand my creator. But I trust that He knows what’s best for me because what I do know is that he probably won’t fit into my little skull and that he is very, very much bigger than me.
