POEM: Many Facets of Relationship

My friend pointed out a flower

That they thought had died after they planted it.

But now it was climbing up a chain link fence

And was bursting with surprising, intricate blooms.

I told him this is what new marriage feels like.

I said, on a trip to the airpot I saw in us

A side I had not seen before.

Both excited and alive together in a new way.

I used to read the Bible like God was the

flower that died in the ground.

But I realized God is a million-faceted person

And each verse is a new bloom to examine.

Very much alive and maybe still surprising.
